    New mobile handheld devices offer many advantages to providers as they enable point-of-care computing. In a number of applications, providers and authorities have had great success in implementing systems that integrate mobile healthcare computing devices This tutorial will provide an introduction to mobile healthcare computing, including an analysis of the 10 successful applications as well as hurdles, standards, and technologies. Issues to be discussed will include interference (EMI), ease of use, and integration of systems

    With the sheer volume of information and steady growth of medical knowledge, the traditional method of scanning primary journals and textbooks is no long adequate. The tutorial covers the evidence-based approach in identifying and searching for best evidence to solve clinical problems and to update oneself without wasting time and effort. At the end of the tutorial, the participants will get to know how electronic medical literature is organized, understand search concepts and apply search strategies on the net (including the e-Knowledge Gateway developed by the Hospital Authority

    Professor McDonald was one of the first researchers to demonstrate that computer-based clinical decision support systems (CDSS) can improve medical care and reduce errors. This tutorial will cover the prerequisites for CDSS (the electronic record, knowledge representation and the delivery mechanisms), considerations of alert threshold and frequency, the impact on clinicians, and will also discuss international experiences in CDSS
